Known for its ease of opening, zero maintaining balance requirements, advance payment features, and automated savings features, Chime has quickly become a go-to alternative to traditional bank accounts. Compared to traditional banks, Chime does not have international wire transfers. It also has no way to create joint accounts. You might also be disappointed to learn that it has low interest rates. Additionally, some features that are readily on PayPal are not yet available on Chime.

Chime users are holding on to their PayPal accounts due to the lack of features such as transferring to international banks, unlimited transfer limits for verified users, and the option for instant transfer processing times.

Option 2: Transfer Money to your PayPal Cash Card from your Chime Account

PayPal has recently released the PayPal Cash Card which lets you direct deposit money like a regular bank account, withdraw from ATMs, and work as a MasterCard. While regular PayPal accounts do not have their own bank details, there is another way to get them – the PayPal Cash Card. In this method, we will walk you through everything that you need to do to transfer money from your Chime account to your PayPal Cash Card.

1. Verify Your PayPal Account

There are a lot of advantages to verifying your PayPal account. The key benefit is that it eliminates any limits to your maximum transactions per month. Verifying your PayPal account is necessary before you can request a PayPal Cash Card.

To verify your PayPal account, you must provide your name, email address, and contact number. Afterward, there are two ways to validate your PayPal account:

  • Apply (and be approved for) for PayPal Credit
  • Link your bank account, credit card, or debit card

Once you have done either of these things, you will be allowed to request a PayPal Cash Card.  To request for a PayPal Cash Card, see how below:

2. Request for a PayPal Cash Card

With direct deposits at no costs, no monthly fees, and no minimum balances, the PayPal Cash Card lets you access funds directly from your PayPal balance. It allows you to have access to over 33,000 ATMs. It also includes the MasterCard Tap & Pay checkout feature and a zero liability policy.

Here is how to request your PayPal Cash Card today:

  • Go to the PayPal Cash Card Page.
  • Click “Get the Card.“
  • Log into your PayPal account.
  • Tap “More” or the three dots icon on the lower right corner of your app.
  • Tap “Order a PayPal Cash Card” or “Order a Cash Card.“
  • If you have not upgraded to a PayPal Cash Account, PayPal will ask you to upgrade before you can proceed.
  • Confirm your address for delivery.

While it will take around 7-10 days for you to receive your physical PayPal Cash Card, you can activate it using the following method below:

3. Activate Your PayPal Cash Card

Activating your PayPal Cash Card can be done in a matter of minutes. This allows you to create your own 4-digit PIN that you will need in order to use your card in the future. To activate your PayPal Cash Card, read below.

  • Go to the PayPal Cash Card Activation Page.
  • Log into your PayPal account.
  • Key in your card’s expiration date.
  • Click “Activate Card.“
  • Type your 4-digit PIN.
  • Click “Create Pin.”

  • Select “Set up or view direct deposit.“
  • Take note of your banking account and routing numbers.

After this, you can now send a direct deposit to your PayPal Cash Card from your Chime App without having to link the two accounts together. Here is how to do that:

  • Tap “Move Money.”
  • Select “Transfers.”
  • Enter your PayPal Cash Card account and routing numbers.

This method is the best option if you are planning to transfer to a PayPal account that you do not own, as it does not require you to link your Chime account to their PayPal Cash Card.

Option 3: Transfer Money from Chime to PayPal Using a Linked Bank Account

If you do not want to have to apply for a PayPal Cash Card, our last method does not require connecting Chime and PayPal directly. Linking a bank account is the best way to transfer money from Chime to PayPal if you prefer to keep them separate.

  • Go to the Chime App.
  • Log into your Chime account.
  • Tap “Move Money.”
  • Select “Transfers.”
  • Choose your external bank.
  • Input your bank account and routing number.

  • Tap “Money, banks and cards.“
  • Under Bank Accounts, tap “Link a new bank account.“
  • Key in your bank details, which include account type, routing number, and bank number. Click “Continue.“

Additionally, Chime-initiated transfers have a lower limit for transfers with a maximum of $200 per day or $1,000 per calendar month. In contrast, external bank-initiated transfers have no maximum dollar limit.

4. Add money from your External Bank Account to your PayPal

  • Click “Add.”
  • Confirm the transaction by clicking “Add X Amount.”

This method will take longer than the last two but is best for people that already have their bank accounts linked to both Chime and PayPal.

Deposit Money from Your External Bank to your PayPal Cash Card

Different banks will have their own procedures on how to transfer to your PayPal Cash Card. All you have to do is to follow them and be sure to input the correct PayPal Cash Card bank account and routing numbers.
